Cistella
The village Cistella is situated off the touristic area, hidden between pine-trees, cork oak forests and olive groves on the verge of the Pyrenees close to the golf course TorreMirona. The houses of the village are closely arranged around the church.
The romanic front of the church Santa Maria de Cistella, from the 12.-13. century, has a remarkable portal with five round arches and is decorated with geometrical and floral elements. On the left and on the right there are capital columns in the corinthian style, one of them is decorated with fantastic animal heads. The Plaça Mayor is enlarged to the Rambla and is flanked by trees. The streets of the village are paved and decorated with plant tubs and flowers. A lot of houses in Cistella derive from the 16. and 17. century and have beautifully restored stone facades and gate welts. Some of them nowadays serve as secondary residence. But there are also more and more residents of Figueres who remove to the country.
